WARM GLASS PRIZE 2011: PUBLIC VOTING NOW OPEN

The shortlisted entries for this year's Warm Glass prize are now online for viewing. There are a number of entries from Irish and Irish-based artists. The public is invited to vote for your favourites in the student category, and two NCAD Glass students have work in the final. NUUTAJÄRVI INTERNATIONAL ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME: CALL

This residency, which runs from 1 - 14 October 2011, offers studio glassblowers and artists an opportunity to work with hot glass in the Nuutajärvi Glass Village, Finland, about 2 hours drive from Helsinki. In Nuutajärvi you will find one of Iittala Group's glassworks, Tavastia Glass School, NuGO Glass Gallery Co-operative and Lasikomppania aka "The Glass Company", a local glass co-operative who organise and offer this residency.

The residency covers 14 days. It includes 5 days in the hotshop for glassblowing or hot casting with clear glass. The artist is responsible of travel expenses and additional materials like glass colours, moulds etc. The hotshop is equipped with two gloryholes with diameters of 17,7" and 11,8", three annealers and a tank furnace. We are using Glasma C48 pellets. Capacity of glass use per day is max. 100kg. Basic glass tools are also available for use. Accomodation is provided for the artist in a local guesthouse. One twin‐room can be provided if accompanied by an assistant. Separate accommodation for possible assistant is available at €30 per night (self‐catered, basic single‐room). The chosen artist is to have a presentation, of his/her work in Nuutajärvi, if possible. (A slideshow etc.). The Glass Company will also hold one piece of work for its collections for future exhibitions.

Studio glass artists and glassblowers are invited to apply for the residency. A work proposal and a CV are required for the application. 2012 GAS CONFERENCE, GLASS FASHION SHOW: CALL

The 2012 GAS conference will take place in Toledo, Ohio, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Studio Glass Movement. As part of the conference's closing party, there will be a glass fashion show, and GAS are looking for submissions to be part of the show. Craft NI is now inviting proposals for its annual selected exhibitions programme 2011-12, from craftspeople, designer-makers, curators, craft networks and retail outlets. Closing date is 14 March 2011.
The Craft NI gallery is a showcase platform for displays and exhibitions of quality contemporary craft. Through an annually selected exhibitions programme, Craft NI offers year round access to displays and exhibitions of quality contemporary craft in the centre of Belfast.

2012 RESIDENCY PROGRAMME, NORDIC ARTISTS' CENTRE: CALL

Professional artists, designers, architects and curators are eligible to apply for residency. The selection is based on artistic merits and the quality of artistic practice. Applicants from outside the Nordic region are expected to be fluent in English. Please note that the program is not available for students.
Residency periods are 2 or 3 months. Please indicate preferred time and length of stay in the application but note that the NKD reserves the right to suggest a different period or/and length of residency.
The residency at the Nordic Artists’ Centre includes a monthly grant of 6700 NOK, living and working space, as well as covered travel expenses up to 5500 NOK. Artists’ houses are fully equipped; studios are 50m², with a wireless internet access available in both houses and studios.

ARTS COUNCIL ARTIST IN THE COMMUNITY SCHEME 2011: CALL

Twice yearly, the Arts Council offers grants to enable artists and communities of place/or interest to work collaboratively on arts projects. The scheme covers all art forms –architecture, circus, street art and spectacle, dance, film, literature (Irish and English language), music, opera, theatre, visual arts and traditional arts.
The projects can take place in a diverse range of social and community contexts eg arts and health; arts in prisons; arts and older people; arts and cultural diversity.

There are two phases to the Scheme:

Phase One, Research & Development, is open to artists who wish to research and develop a project in a community context. Maximum time frame is 3 months. The maximum amount awarded in Phase One is €1,000.

Phase One, Research & Development/Mentoring is open to artists who wish to develop a community based project and who have identified an artist mentor they want to work with during the research and development phase. The maximum award is €1500, which includes €500 fee payable to the mentor.

Phase Two, Project Realisation, is open to communities of interest or place (or their representative organisations), planning a project of between 6 weeks and 5 months with a maximum award of €5000, and those who are planning a project of between 6 months and 9 months with a maximum award of €10,000.

The deadlines in 2011 are Monday 14 March 5pm and Monday 27 June 5pm.

SCULPTURE IN CONTEXT 2011: CALL

Sculpture in Context Annual Open Exhibition 2011 will be held at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9. The exhibition will run from 8th September to 21st October 2011. The Botanic Gardens offers a unique and challenging platform for artists to respond to a specific location.

WORKSHOPS AT LEITRIM SCULPTURE CENTRE

EXHIBITION AND ARTIST TALKS AT SOLSTICE, NAVAN

Meath Artists Patrick FitzGerald, Mette Roche and Deirdre Rogers have been exhibiting their artwork in a colourful exhibition entitled ‘Flow’ in the Solstice Arts Centre Gallery and the show continues until Friday11th March.

The second of a series of focus exhibitions of artists living and working in County Meath, ‘Flow’ brings together these three artists whose work connects through concerns of colour, pattern and rhythm. Compositions are explored through the fusion and transformation of patterns in diverse mediums of oil, wax and glass.

As part of the exhibition artist Mette Roche and glass sculptor Deirdre Rogers will discuss their work and practice in the gallery.
