DESIGNER MART AT COW'S LANE: CALL FOR ARTISTS / DESIGNERS

Designer Mart are now enrolling new craftspeople, designers and artists to become part of one of Temple Bar’s outdoor markets, re-starting in March 2010. Showcasing handmade jewellery, ceramics, visual art, furniture design and fashion, Designer Mart is a platform from which to sell and display hand-made crafts and design.

BRING ON THE NEW 2010 - MAKERS WORKING WITH MAKERS IN THE UK: CALL

Applications are welcome for 8 collaborative partnerships from:

* Glass makers/designers and educators running businesses in the West Midlands
* Cohesion members living & working in Tyne & Wear
* Glass makers living and working in Europe (EU) countries – Sweden, Greece, France, Czech Republic, Germany etc and the USA.

Working in collaboration with a glass business based within the West Midlands, glassmakers from the North East branch of Cohesion, along with makers living and working in Europe (EU) including Germany, Sweden, Greece, France, Czech Republic etc and Corning in the USA are invited to work on a collaborative piece, where emphasis will be on the creation of uniquely, individual forms for ‘Life Style and Interior Living.’ For example: inventive structures which enhance outdoor living, à la mode lighting, distinctive furniture, ingenious approaches to designing tableware etc.

As part of the project the Red House Glass Cone have made available their blowing and kiln facilities to accommodate the creative sparks of collaborative working. Although not compulsory, the residencies are free to collaborative partners and are available from Easter onwards, with each residency running across five days. Glass Collaborations hope to make available a number of small awards to support overseas visits between West Midlands makers working in collaboration with a German partner. Works produced during these collaborations (including examples of the artists own work) will be showcased at the Red House Glass Cone during the International Festival of Glass 2010. JANUARY SPECIAL: 2-DAY BRONZE CASTING WORKSHOP, H2STUDIO

A 2-day Bronze Casting Workshop will take place at h2studio in Ballinaspittle/Kinsale, Co. Cork. This introductory workshop will cover wax work, mould making, casting techniques and self made equipment. All work small scale. January special reduced price: E200. The workshop is suitable for all levels. Small groups.

FELTING WORKSHOPS, CO. CARLOW

January felting workshops with Nicola Brown will take place at Clasheen, Ballybrack, Borris, Co. Carlow on 16 and 23 January.

1. Fingerless Mittens, Saturday 16 January 2010, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Cost: E25
Keep your hands warm this winter and felt a pair of fingerless mittens with Icelandic wool by learning to felt around a plastic resist, a method also used to create bags, sculptures and other 3D work.

2. Nuno Felting, Saturday 23 January 2010, 10.30am to 12.30pm. Cost: E25
Nuno felting is a technique that incorporates fabric and fibre and is used to create drapeable felt. Students will experiment with different types of natural fabrics and learn how to create texture using light wool.

Workshops include materials. Nicola can also facilitate groups of min. 4 people who would like to determine their own felting agenda at Clasheen any Saturday from 2 to 4pm during January. Unless any special material requirements are necessary (e.g. silk fabric as well as fibre) these sessions will also cost E25 per person including materials.

8-WEEK JEWELLERY CLASS, IRISH DESIGN SHOP

An 8-week Jewellery Class will begin on Tuesday 2 February 2010 from 6.30 to 9pm at the Irish Design Shop in Dublin 2. Cost: E280. The course will cover basic jewellery skills in metal, such as ring and broach making, starting in copper and then working in silver. Techniques will include piercing, soldering and riveting. Extra charge for working in silver: approx. E30. Small class numbers.

2010 MASTER CLASSES AND T/A OPPORTUNITY WITH THE GLASS STUDIO IRELAND

Karl Harron Glassmaker will be leading innovative Master Classes in advanced kilnforming techniques at The Glass Studio in April and September 2010 and also at GlassForum, on the island of Averoy, Norway in May 2010.

ON THE EDGE: EXHIBITION AND EVENTS AND THE NCG







On the Edge: Contemporary Glass from Ireland and South West England, which has been travelling around Britain for the past number of months, opens in the National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny on January 16th. The exhibition runs until the 21st of March, and during its run, there are a number of events going on there in association with the Glass Society of Ireland and the Crafts Council of Ireland. VALENTINES FOR SWANSEA GLASS: CALL




As part of the 2010 celebration of 75 years of the Welsh School of Architectural Glass glass artists are invited to design and fabricate a glass panel on the theme of ‘A Valentine for Swansea Glass’. Over all dimensions of artwork 30x30cm full size - this includes the means of hanging your artwork. The work will be exhibited at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea. Opening 12th. February.

INTERNATIONAL SCULPTURE CONFERENCE, LONDON, APRIL 2010

Antony Gormley, Robert Storr, and Lucy Orta will headline the International Sculpture Centre's 22nd International Sculpture Conference, “What is Sculpture in the 21st Century?”, being held in London, UK, April 7-9.

This monumental event will explore topics including: The Languages of Sculpture; Public Perception and Investment; and The State of Education. In addition to the keynote speakers, conference highlights include an international roster of presenters, opening reception at Tate Modern, free admission to Henry Moore Exhibition at Tate Britain, daily ArtSlam sessions for attendees to show their work, workshop demonstrations at Chelsea College of Art & Design, and a gallery hop, as well as pre and post event optional activities. Early bird, member, and student rates available (pending sponsorship).
